I am deeply rooted in the agriculture community. My husband and I live on a 100 acre cash crop/beef cow-calf farm and rent an additional 200 acres for crops. Our 3 adult children are all involved in the agricultural industry. My husband, along with one of our sons, does custom farming ranging from planting, cutting, baling and wrapping to also operating a farm land clearing business.
As a member of the Kawartha Antique Power Club, I organize the Antique Tractor Pull. My husband and I collect antique Farmall tractors.
I have a variety of different breeds of chickens and enjoy showing them at our local fairs.
I am a member of the OFA and our farm has both an NMP and EFP designation. I have taken the GYFP course and the Pesticide Safety certification course through Guelph. I am currently on the Education Committee for the IPM 2020, Lindsay event.
In my role as Training Specialist at The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group, I am responsible for designing and facilitating farm seminars to both our internal team members and our broker partners. I collaborate with all departments, especially claims and legal, to ascertain how our policy wordings will impact a policy member’s claim. I am on the Wordings Committee to review new wordings designed for our farm insurance products.
I continue to design and facilitated a number of farm seminars for the Insurance Institute – both the Kawartha-Durham and the Ottawa chapters.
I am passionate about training and enjoy the opportunities for expanding the knowledge and skill-sets of those interested in agriculture.
I recently registered my own business – RKD (Real Knowledge Development) Training and Consulting, as I had been receiving requests for additional farm seminars.
I have been involved in the agricultural side of the insurance industry working with farm clients and farm insurance brokers since 2012.
We have lived on our farm here in Cameron since 1992 and I have always been involved in our community.
I have taken online agricultural courses and seminars offered by OMAFRA and have attended in-class GYFP, NMP and EFP seminars.
Prior to accepting the role as Training Specialist at The Commonwell, my time as a farm broker was spent meeting with clients, viewing and evaluating their farm outbuildings and providing recommendations for coverages and limits on their farm outbuildings and chattels.
Prior to obtaining my brokerage license, I worked at our local feed store, dealing with our local farms on a daily basis for their livestock nutrition needs.
