Topic: The Canadian Agricultural Partnership (replacement for Growing Forward program)
Guest Speaker: John Cumming and Peter Coughler
John and Peter will outline the suite of Business Risk Management Programs and Strategic Initiatives that are offered under the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership, with emphasis on any changes from previous programming.
John Cumming has worked at OMAFRA for 17 years, and before that at AAFC and Statistics Canada – Agriculture Division. While with the Ministry, John has worked on Loan Guarantee programs, farm taxation issues and the implementation of the HST and more recently the provincial Risk Management Program suite. As Senior Policy Advisor with the Ministry, and Fed/Prov co-chair of the BRM Policy working group, John leads the BRM side of negotiation, implementation and administration of programs in Ontario under the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership Framework. John is also part of a broader team that negotiates and the implements the full suite of programs found under CAP.
Peter Coughler has been with OMAFRA since 1999. Over the past almost 19 years, Peter has held several positions including Succession Planning and Business Agreements Program Lead, Team Lead with Regional Economic Development Branch and a couple of acting manager roles. He is currently the Manager of the Business Analysis Unit with the Business Development Branch. Before joining OMAFRA, Peter had a variety of work experiences including teaching farm management courses at Macdonald Campus—McGill University, a manager with Manitoba Agriculture and operating a dairy farm.”
