Will Lowe’s Bio:
I was born and raised here in Kyle, SK and currently reside at Saskatchewan Landing with my wife Cindy and our four kids. Our family has been living in this area since 1910 and currently has the 2nd, 3rd and now the 4th generation involved in our family farm (LZ Farms). We grow lentils, peas, canola and durum on about 3,000 acres in addition to hay production of another 800 acres. We also run a herd of 200 head of AngusX cows and either have our calves custom backgrounded or finished in local feedlots.
I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1999 with a Degree in Agriculture, majoring in Agricultural Economics. Upon graduating I was employed by Cargill Meat Solutions in High River, AB and worked in the Cattle Procurement department as a Cattle Buyer from 1999 – 2007 with about half of the time spent in a territory in southwestern Alberta. From 2002 – 2007 I moved back to Saskatchewan to look after both Saskatchewan and Manitoba and was the only buyer in Canada to ship cattle to three different plants from their territory.
In 2007 I was approached by a group of feedlot owners in Alberta and Saskatchewan who later formed Northwest Consolidated Beef Producers based in Strathmore, AB to help form a marketing group that would market cattle on their behalf. With concentrated powers at the packing plant level in Western Canada; NWCBP’s marketing goal was to leverage more money out of the fed cattle markets from the packing plants than individual feedlots were able to on their own.
In 2011 I decided it was time to dedicate myself full time to the farm and our growing family but wasn’t ready to totally walk away from the past dozen years and therefore I remain involved with Porter & Maclean Livestock of Medicine Hat, AB and TEAM Livestock out of Strathmore, AB as an order buyer and field representative.
I have been on numerous boards in the past and currently sit on the board for Saskatchewan Cattle Feeders Association (SCFA) as well as being Saskatchewan’s representative on the National Cattle Feeders Association (NCFA).
